ERTC Bi-Weekly Update - Week of October 23

Hey everyone! With the first snow of the season it’s safe to say that rides here on out will be really rare and likely be wrapped up until next year. With that in mind, it is time to set the date for our AGM. Our AGM will be held on November 24, 2023, at 6:30PM, with official proceedings at 7:00PM. We do not have a venue secured yet however wanted to make sure the date was saved. As usual, the AGM is catered, with beverages provided by Blindman and Costco. Keep your eyes peeled for an update with location in the future. Our AGM provides an opportunity to us to present critical decisions to the club, as well as elect our executive positions. As it is an odd year, the VP and Women’s Cycling Coordinator is up for election. More on the positions here: https://www.ertc.org/the-executive-team

As usual, this comes with our yearly satisfaction survey here: https://forms.gle/txjKsCYtPbVyWRZj9 The form will ask you for an email but this is to ensure that you can only submit the survey once. I do not see your email, and the survey is anonymous. While you probably hear this a ton, we really do take the time to review all the answers and think about tweaks and changes to the club we can do for next year.

This is also the time to start thinking about becoming a ride leader for next year. You don’t have to make a decision now but if you found yourself coming regularly to rides, or love the group you were riding with, why not become a ride leader and be rewarded? We buy our ride leaders kit, as well as other perks. There is no requirement to be fast or to be in front, but there is a requirement for you to be willing to know where you are going (GPS is allowed, of course) and be willing to represent the club, its values, and communicate the intent of the ride to it’s participants in a clear manner.

Event Updates:

ERTC Weekly Update - Week of September 11

We interrupt your regular normal weekly update for 1 really important message. Ok, maybe 1.5!

We really still need volunteers for this weekend’s (September 17) CX races. We still do not have enough people to run a safe race at the time of this writing. The most important items we currently need is someone to make a Costco order / run (this needs a vehicle, obviously), and someone to be a volunteer coordinator (basically co-direct the race). Not sure what you’ll be doing for the race? Check out the volunteer description here: https://www.ertc.org/socvd and sign up for volunteering here: https://volunteersignup.org/KPY9Y

Ok, so the .5 - we still have a couple of spots open for the CX skills tomorrow. It was postponed from last week due to smoke so the new dates are September 12 and 19, starting at 6:30, at Argyll Park (https://goo.gl/maps/EE5MX9pbmyFUHjuY7) E-mail or message me for enrollment.

ERTC Weekly Update - Week of August 28

A big final weekend of skinny tire events with Amanda, Dakota, and Jakob representing ERTC at Track Provincials (Hey now, sometimes the T means something…) Check out the race report from Amanda! - Race report!!! ERTC does Track Provincials!! Amanda, Dakota, and Jakob rode this weekend and represented in a mix of endurance and sprint events. Both guys did their first track provs ever and did well! Jakob raced almost everything, and is the new Men’s Elite scratch race Provincial Champion and podiumed in the IP and Elimination. Dakota raced the IP, points, and TT and beat his target IP time by 15 seconds. I showed up and got no PBs but gave some hard efforts after taking off most of the summer from hard training due to medical stuff so count it as a win.

The Social Event this weekend was also a success with ~15 people showing up and having a great time over beverages and BBQ!

ERTC Weekly Update - Week of July 17

Smoke smoke go away, don’t come back any days (same with you rain, but you can show up once in awhile to keep things interesting)

Club Updates:

While ERTC does not run our own casino night, several of our affiliated organisations do. Casino funding is an important way of ensuring that our youth get the funding that they require in order to pursue their racing ambitions. In order to get casino funding, the organisation must provide volunteers that are able to work a casino night once a year. The positions are fairly easy and include things like Chip Runner and Banker.

This is the link to the Alberta Bicycle Association Casino Sign-up (July 20-21) https://volunteersignup.org/DRE33

This is the link to the Argyll Velodrome Association Casino Sign-up (July 26-27) https://volunteersignup.org/H8TKF

After some discussion, ERTC will be making an effort to show up to the L’Etape (https://www.letapecanada.com/registration) , and show off our club to the road community at large. (and maybe get a few new members for next year!) What does this mean?

  • If you participate and sign up under our club you will receive 10% off your registration fee. This is automatic on the signup form.

  • Wear our jersey and get an extra $15-20 off (TBD based on participants, maybe even more!) Just forward me your receipt and we will get you paid back.

  • We will be hosting a space in the expo during and afterward. If you can mill about after your event and chat to other people it would be great! We have some print materials you can hand out as well.

  • Ride your legs off during the event!

Bit early this week - I’ll be helping out with WoERTC tomorrow evening! (It’s hot so maybe ice cream/gelato stop after?)

Congratulations to everyone who participated in this weekend’s first road race of the season down in Olds. Shoutout to Jakob Claffey, Dan Zeggelaar, Francesca Seal, Courtney Parker, Mark Adams, and Arun Ward for repping the colours! Speaking of racing, Midweek Racing this week happens at Northlands. Even if you don’t want to race, it’s a great place to check out the scene! Access via Borden Park side. More info here: https://www.emrcracing.com/events-1/criterium-tl8yp

Club Updates:

  1. Skill Clinics continue with the final session being a slow group ride with plenty of time to review. Meet at the research park at 6.

  2. You have spoken, and it looks option #3 is the winner for the summer jersey! Next step with our designer is getting an actual jersey layout together.

  3. We have ironed out details with our NEW SPONSOR, Healthcare Solutions. Healthcare Solutions is your one stop home medical, wellness, and rehab store. If you wish to purchase anything online, use ERTC15 at checkout, and if you wish to buy in store, just say you’re with ERTC to receive a 15% discount off any regular priced items.

Ride Updates:

  1. Lite Hills will be switching to a new route, starting at Muttart. Can’t make the start time and location? Regular hills will continue to be an excellent option for you.

  2. There are usually 2 rides on Saturday, with Regular and ERTC-Lite. These may be split further to ensure that groups stay below our soft-cap of 15 which is about the limit of a group size manageable by 1 ride leader. Make sure you RSVP appropriately.

Reminders:

  1. All day-to-day club communication takes place on slack - you can join here: https://join.slack.com/t/edmontonroada-7u36621/shared_invite/zt-1t5qvezds-JotWB~e_EJcXrD9NArQarA on slack you can find out about upcoming events, access various chat areas and hang out with other club members!

  2. All ride planning and updates happen on Strava. Don’t know what that is? Learn more here: https://www.ertc.org/joining-strava if you know what that is, then the link to our strava is here: https://www.strava.com/clubs/ertc - you will need to ask to join and I will let you in once I cross reference you with the membership list. It is highly recommended that you RSVP on strava so that we can plan for an appropriate amount of ride leaders and a suitable route for the group size.

  3. Midweek racing is back after a 4 year long hiatus. More information and sign-up here: https://www.emrcracing.com/ ERTC has a volunteer commitment in order to participate, but when our dates come up we will put out a call for volunteers.

  4. Have a friend who isn’t sure about joining? They can sign the trial waiver here: https://zone4.ca/register.asp?id=31901 for 1 free ride. The ride can be any ride, but a heads up to the ride leader would be appreciated.
