Is that… SNOW ON THE GROUND?! I think it is! With that, our official 2018 road/track/cross season comes to an end, and all regularly scheduled outdoor rides will be officially stopped. Fear not, there will still be pick-up winter trail rides when there is a bit more snowpack, along with plenty of socials throughout the winter to get us through those long winter months.
As the last cross race was this weekend, this wraps up the 2018 racing season and we start to look ahead to next year. There’s still plenty of events and happenings between now and the new year, but not all of them may happen on bikes, but will definitely still be bicycle related!
Oh boy, forgive me (or don’t) cause this one is super late but we all needed a few days after our race to be super lazy. Speaking of, speak out our report from Principal (Race Director) Tim Bulger about our School of Cross race this weekend!
Don’t let the snow forecasts scare ya! Tons of stuff this week so I’ll stop commenting and get right to it!
YOU KNOW WHAT IT’S TIME FORRRRR?!!? Yeah you know it. We showin’ no signs of slowing down, we ride until the snow flies, and then we switch bikes! Cross is definitely here and we are switching over! Haven’t tried cross? Well, it’s definitely unique and I recommend coming out on Wednesday nights just to check it out! You ride a drop bar bike with bigger tires on mostly grass courses, littered with obstacles that you might have to get off your bike and run or jump over. The speed isn’t very high and it’s very accessible. I am not ashamed to say I was beaten by a 12 year old kid this weekend and have seen kids from 5 through seniors over 70 competing in cross! You will need another bike for this though, but basically any bike will do as long as it’s not a pure road bike (well, you can but it will be very uncomfortable for you) but any old mountain bike or even hybrid will do!
This weekend saw us hosting Alberta Provincial Criterium Championships, and it went off without a hitch! Check out more from Tim, the race organizer:
Hope the last week was an amazing week on the bike for y’all, and if it wasn’t I hope that changes this week for ya! Unfortunately it doesn’t look like the weather is on our side (again) this week but make sure to post on the ERTC - Social Facebook group to see if someone wants to sneak in a cheeky ride when it’s not raining!
Hope y’all had a memorable Canada Day weekend (Or one that you can’t remember, both are fine!) Post is a little late this week due to that but hey, like 4 people read this so yeah…
This weekend saw our first road race we’ve hosted since 2014, and it went without a hitch! (OK, maybe there was one. To tow the trailer around.) Check out some words from one of the race organizers (and Vice President and Clothing Manager, and all around lovely guy, Greg Nicholson)
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE VOLUNTEER FOR OUR RACE!! We are still desperately needing someone to tow the trailer out to the race (the race DOES NOT HAPPEN IF THIS DOESN’T HAPPEN) and we still need 2 more wheel cars. The race also DOES NOT HAPPEN without these positions filled. Sign up here: https://www.volunteersignup.org/YRLCD
Perject KOM hunting weather! Not! I’m staying inside… Another week, which means another week where we all loved riding our bikes despite the conditions… right? Right?! Anyway. Things!
I don’t have any cheesy openings this week so let’s just get right down to the center of the wheel shall we?
A huge congratulations to Shauna Telford, as she is now the NATIONAL CRITERIUM CHAMPION for the Masters 30-39 Age Group! Hopefully you’ll get to meet her on one of the rides rocking her brand new red and white champions jersey!
Ay-ye Ay-ye Ayy here’s a blog post!~ Congratulations to all of our “graduates” of the Learn 2 Ride Skills Sessions, with 25 people coming out to the finish session - we hope you’ve come away a better and safer rider! Keep your eyes peeled for more casually paced rides on Wednesdays throughout the summer!
Aight so like yesterday was like a holiday so today is actually Monday so this isn’t actually late right?! So anyways, WE STILL REALLY NEED YOUR HELP FOR OUR RACE!!! Putting on races is one of the ways the ERTC tries to contribute to the cycling scene in Alberta. The stronger the scene, the better we are all for it.
