The Edmonton Road and Track Club is excited to present the Pigeon Lake Road Race, Sunday, June 11, 2023 in the beautiful picturesque countryside near Pigeon Lake, Alberta.
We are happy to announce that this year's Pigeon Lake Road is supported by our friends at Blindman Brewing. With their support, and delicious beers, we will have beer prizing in addition to cash prizing. If(and only if) you are too young to receive this beer prizing, there will be an additional $20 given to you.
SAFETY
Every aspect of this event is being planned with safety as the first priority. You are a critical partner in ensuring the event is run in a manner that is safe and enjoyable for all racers, race officials, volunteers, and residents of the area. RIDER CONDUCT
Riders shall act with utmost caution.
All licence holders shall, in whatever capacity, participate in cycling races in a sporting and fair manner.
Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated, including but not limited to public urination, littering, use of profane language and verbal abuse of officials.

PARKING
The Mulhurst Bay Community Hall is the staging site for this road race, please do not park in on East side of the Community Hall. Please park on the large grass area north and east of the baseball fields, please park intelligently and be considerate of others. There is plenty of parking. The area circled in red below is available parking. The paved area the the east of the community hall is volunteer and race vehicle parking ONLY.
RACE ROUTE
Each race category starts with a neutral rollout from Mulhurst Bay Community Hall proceeding 8.9 km North, then West, on Hwy 616 to the race circuit, which is 24 km long. At the conclusion of the last lap of the circuit the race turns East on Hwy 616 and proceeds 6.5 km to the finish line.
Marshalls will be stationed at the corners (pending volunteers), however their primary responsibility will be helping with traffic control and awareness. They are not responsible for showing you the route. It is recommended that you study the route below to avoid any wrong turns.

There are two separate starting waves, as we want to limit the potential for groups to catch or cross paths with other races. This will allow for a safer race for each group, it also makes the sign in process in the morning less chaotic.
The course is comprised of a 9km start, a 24km circuit plus 6.5km to the finish.

LICENSE CHECK-IN
Early races have first priority for sign-in. Do not lineup to sign in outside of the times shown below. Sign in will close 15 minutes prior to each category’s respective start. Sign-on will be at the community center.

NUMBER PLACEMENT
If you have already received your ABA numbers, wear them for this race. If this is your first ABA race, you will be assigned your race numbers.
Failing to bring your personal race numbers – should you have them – is a $10 replacement cost.

Chip Timing
This race will be chip timed, giving more complete timing information. Please pick up your chip at sign-on and attach it to your handlebars. Return the chips to the timing tent or at the community hall. Failure to return your timing chip will result in a $50 fine.

An ambulance and several paramedics will be on the course.

FEED ZONE
The feed zone has been placed on TwpRd 474A beginning approximately 300m West of the junction of RR13 and TwpRd 474A. It will be marked with the green feed zone flags.
There is no feeding allowed in the first 50km (laps 1 and 2) and the last 20km of the race.
The morning races (Citizen, Women4, and U15/U17) will not have a feed zone.
Feed Zone Safety
There will be a marshall at the feed zone, if you have any questions ask that marshall, if you have any concerns please speak to that marshall.
Volunteers and feeders must keep vehicles completely off the road surface, including the shoulder.
Do not stand on the roadway, other than when you are feeding passing riders.
Instructions To Feeders & Team Support
Race organizers and local residents will not tolerate any litter or waste left behind. Feel free to find safe parking on Township Road 474A and simply walk to the feed area.
Instructions to Racers
Bottles and trash are only to be discarded in the feed zones. Failure to abide will result in sanctions being levied on individual riders, or teams if the rider can not be identified.
PASSED RIDERS
Pay attention to other traffic in your lane. Pass other groups on their left and stay as far to the right as is practicable to allow for passing motor traffic or another race group. Do not mix in with other race groups.
If the wheel vehicle passes you ride as far to the right as is practicable and obey all traffic signs and laws. If another group catches up to you, you cannot ride or work with the group or be involved in the final sprint.
DNF RIDERS
If you retire from the race please report this to a course marshal, to the organizer at the Mulhurst Bay Community Centre, or the Commissaires at the finish line.
FINISH LINE
The finish line is on Hwy 616 approximately 1,000m after turning South on Hwy 616. The finishing sprint must not cross the centre line. At the conclusion of your race, proceed directly to Mulhurst Bay Community Hall. Crossing the centerline at any point during the race will result in immediate disqualification.
Finish Line Safety
Hwy 616 is an active road and safety of participants, race officials, residents, and motorists is of the highest priority.
Once you have completed your race immediately travel safely to Mulhurst Bay Community Hall. If you want to remain at the finish line then please cross Hwy 616 safely and enter the ditch.
END OF RACE
Podium Presentations
Podium presentations will be held shortly after the race ends, and the commissaires have confirmed the results, at the Mulhurst Bay Community hall.
Prizing
Prizing will be a combination of cash and merchandise. Prizing will be finalized based on the number of entries. Prizing will be awarded equally across all categories, other than U17 which will have more cash (and less beer).
Mechanical Issues / Wheel Cars
Wheel cars will be provided if there are enough volunteers. Priority will be placed on Women’s Category 1/2/3 and Men’s 1/2. There will be no neutral wheels and the only wheels you may use are your own.

Sweep away rocks & debris that pose a danger to riders.
Wheel vehicle drivers, please grab your fuel card, vest, and signage package. Park your vehicle in the prescribed stall. Please arrive with a full tank of fuel.
Commissaire vehicle drivers, please grab your fuel card, vest, and your signage package. Park your vehicle on RR 234 facing south. Please arrive with a full tank of fuel.

Duties
Park your vehicle on the east side of the community hall
Tape vehicle signage to the inside of your automobile on the back and side windows
Your designated commissaire will provide you with instructions
At the end of the race park on the east side of the community hall and return any signs or other race material.

WHEEL VEHICLES
Duties
Park your vehicle on the east side of the community hall
Tape vehicle signage to the inside of your automobile on the back and side windows
In the event of a mechanical or flat, use caution pulling over to assist the rider
Please wear your safety vest when assisting riders
Make sure to record the rider’s number on whatever wheel is taken. Riders should only be taking their own wheels; these are not neutral wheels
Return to the hall after your race ends to unload your vehicle so that riders can claim their wheels

This corner will be quite active as it is the beginning and end of the circuits that each race group will be doing, in addition the local gas station is located at this corner so there will be additional traffic entering and exiting the store.

Emergency Response Plan Instructions for Volunteers.
All marshals and follow cars will be expected to carry a cell phone. If a crash or incident is noticed, Make your way over to the incident area when it is safe to do so. If ANYONE is not able to get back on their bike or has anything more than a scrape/road rash - you will call 911. Use the attached map to guide the operator to where you are. You will then call Aaron Paramedical - the ambulance on course. You will then call me. In that order. All the important numbers are listed at the end of this document. I would much rather have an ambulance on course that is not needed than to be late in getting one than it was. Do not hesitate to call it!
