Ok, I have a confession… I’m a little tipsy as I write this, and totally could use some McDonalds or a donair. A donair sounds really good. I wonder who delivers… I mean. This week was another great week for ERTC! Surprisingly very little rain other than Tuesday, where the women’s ride saw torrential downpour after their ride on the way back in. Everyone got out of that alright, and the rest of the rides, incluing Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday saw great attendance!
Our BBQ on Saturday was a stunning success, a huge THANK YOU to James and his wife Jessica (and their adorable daughter Audrey) for hosting. Please take the time to thank him if you can. He did all the booze and food shopping and James manned the grill and took care of the cleanup afterwards, going above and beyond what we asked of him.
So for this week there are a couple things on horizon in terms of events, but the most important thing is that next week Tuesday intervals are now over – There will be a cross ride instead as the official ride. If you wish to continue with intervals, please speak up on Facebook. The rest will be in the announcements.
Cross is coming! The ERTC schedule has been fully updated to reflect the multitude of races we have coming up for cross – please take a look if you haven’t already. Tuesdays will be switching from intervals to Cross rides soon.
Saturday, August 20th: A fun little event we are doing, the Merckx – 2 up TT – I’ll let the Facebook event do the talking here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1110198669027033/ It’s a private event, please e-mail me / FB message if you want an invite (if you haven’t gotten one already) Basically you grab a partner, your road bike and road helmet and you pedal for 20km as hard as you can! The point is to have fun and get a little bit of race experience so it doesn’t matter if your partner is fast or slow.
Monday September 5th, UCI/WTC Velothon: Billed as “Feel like a Pro” for a day, it’s a 60/100KM “Gran Fondo” through closed Edmonton streets, using the same course the Pros will go through. It’s the first event of it’s kind in North America, and is sure to get spicy. We currently have 5 members of our race team confirmed for this. As a bonus afterwards, we can watch the pros do the very same course afterwards, and have a few brews doing it on a holiday Monday! http://tourofalberta.ca/velothonedmonton/
Sunday, September 10th, DV100 – The race/ride is definitely one of the biggest in Alberta with a bunch of racers showing up even though there are no points – it interferes with cross a little so it’s a tough choice, but definitely a great event! We have several racers confirmed for this already, and with a trip to Belize and $14000 on the line in prizing, it is sure to get real rowdy! http://dv100.ca/
Tuesday Intervals will be meeting at 6PM at Wild Earth, for research park intervals. depending on attendance this may be changed to Hawrelak. If you want to ride your cross bike, please message Brandon Langille on Facebook or post something on the Facebook page as he will be doing a cross ride on Tuesday.
Saturday’s main ride will be changed to the TT. There will be a group leaving Wild Earth to ride out, however the regular ride will still go if you don’t want to do the TT, however we recommend you try the TT as a test of how fit you are.
All other rides will go as planned.
